“I like to think of Reiki as my best friend. Reiki is always there to support me even when I didn’t know that I needed the support. Don’t we all have a friend who seems to intuitively “Know” when we need something be it a hug, a fun outing, a shoulder to cry on. Reiki is this friend to me. Reiki never judges me or offers unsolicited advice but totally supports me on every level mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and even social. I cannot express in words the amazing support, blessings and balance that Reiki has given me in my life. I am eternally grateful for the wonderful simple and effective benefits it has brought into my life. Reiki allows me to be an active participant in my health and healing and all I have to do is place my hands on my body and allow Reiki to take care of the rest.”

Get Your Glow On And Let Your Light Shine Peel Party

Saturday September 26th 2pm-8pm  $50

We had a lot of fun last month gathering together for the Peel Party not only did people leave with glowing skin, but the added bonus was that it was a wonderful way for people to hang out, chill out, have a light cocktail, and network. A lot of great connections were made.

One of the things that I kept hearing was that there are a few of you who have been “Scarred” no pun intended by the Sex and the City episode where Samantha goes in for a “light lunch time peel” and leaves the office looking like beef carpaccio.

Well I understand the impact that the episode had and I also understand that most often we fear what we have not yet experienced. Sooo…… on that note, I asked a few peeps who were at last months peel party to tell about the experience in their own words.

Marissa said:

"I was surprised that the peel only takes 5 minutes; it's quick, easy, and painless.  Afterwards, your skin feels tighter and more radiant.  I glowed for two weeks, which many people noticed and complimented.

I've had problematic skin most of my life, and this fast fix is a great way of making your skin totally refreshed and healthy-looking.

I can't wait until the next peel party since the more often you get peels, the better your skin operates from within due to the acids creating new skin cells. Although you're red for a few minutes after the peel, your skin clears up fast and looks better than ever a few hours later.  It's perfect for prepping for a hot date, job interview, or big event.  Perhaps the stars super secret?"

Don't be afraid of the term 'chemical peel' - it won't turn you into a zombie - and it's a simple, fast procedure.  You're done in the same time it takes to drink a martini.”

 Merritt said:

"The fruit acid facial peel Kim performed left my skin soft, supple, vibrant and glowing. This procedure is perfect for anyone who wants younger-looking, healthier skin in just a few minutes. Unlike harsher chemical treatments, this peel is painless, fast-acting and leaves the skin radiant - without flaking or irritation. I noticed immediately a reduction in my acne scars, fine lines and other skin imperfections. As someone who has suffered from troublesome skin for years, my skin hasn't looked or felt this great in a decade. For 2 weeks after the peel, I received numerous compliments on how soft and glowing my skin looked!"

The next Peel Party is scheduled for Saturday September 26th from 2pm - 8pm, the price will be reduced to $50. Invite a friend and your peel becomes $40 invite two and it's $30 Invite four it's $20 invite five friends and your peel is FREE!!!  Fun music and Refreshments will be provided. Feel free to bring a bottle of wine or something to make a fun drink with.

Quick note: Regular peels are very effective and the results are cumulative. The treatment works deep in your dermis where new cells are developed. Over time with regular treatments not only will you see marked improvement, you will actually reverse the signs of aging. Peels are one of the treatments I like to think of as a personal training session for your skin. Each time you do the treatment you “bulk up” the cells similar to a workout. So what are you waiting for? come and experience the fast, effective and fabulous treatment. For more information go to www.evolvewithgrace.com  and read treatments which includes peel pre peel and post peel protocol.

What is self-care?

For many people the idea of self-care is an unknown concept. What is self-care? Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, has listed their description of self-care as:

Self-care is personal health maintenance. It is any activity of an individual, family or community, with the intention of improving or restoring health, or treating or preventing disease.

The American Heritage Medical Dictionary describes self-care as:

Self-care: The care of oneself without medical, professional, or other assistance or oversight.

What does self-care and daily self-care mean to me? Self-care for me is a combination of the two descripitons above but with my own personal twist. I tend to merge self-care with beauty. I love to take a simple task that is generally associated with personal hygeine and give it intention. What do I mean by intention? Well, instead of just jumping from task to task, I like to take a minute and put some energy into what I am doing. For example: Instead of just throwing lotion on my skin after a shower I like to take a minute and thank my body while I am applying the lotion. I thank my legs for being strong and flexable allowing me to move freely. I appreciate my arms for all the things they help me to do in my day. I thank my feet for keeping me grounded and being my mode of transportation - literally acting as my vehicle and taking me from point A to point B almost effortlessly. I thank my body for being so good to me, and in the few minutes that I take to thank my body while performing a simple ritual of applying lotion, my body thanks me in return.

Examples of Self-care:

Exercise. I love when the weather is warm being able to head out to the water on the west side and go for a run/walk with my i-pod and some good music. It is the best way to start the day.

Beautiful Food. Food literally is the fuel for our bodies; it keeps us going, gives us energy and helps to keep us strong. Providing the body with healthy food is a wonderful way to apply self care.

Quiet time, How often do you take a few minutes and just get quiet? Give yourself quiet time. It's in the stillness that so many wonderful things come to us.

Inspiring people. Spend time with positive people. Doing so is a great practice of self-care.

Find what works for you, but do it. Spend time everyday doing something good for yourself. It doesn't have to take a long time, just put intention and energy into what you do and you will reap the rewards.

Happy 2009

 Happiness 2009

Well it's 2009 and we're well into the New Year and like many of you, I am focusing on the changes that I would like to make in my life to make 2009 a great year.  2008 was a challenging year for many people; we saw foundations and structures that seemed so solid crumbling around us and many people began to realize that NOTHING is permanent. So with that said, what changes can I make in myself for 2009?

After returning to New York post holidays I took a minute to get clear on my goals for 2009; I prayed and meditated on what I could do every day to stay in the positive for 2009 and the answer came to me clear as a bell. Happiness, OK so what does happiness have to do with change? I took another minute, had myself a little think on it and this is what came to me. There are two emotions where all other emotions come from: the first is FEAR, fear is the source of Anxiety, Sadness, Stress, Anger, Loss and all other negative or imbalanced emotions. The second emotion is LOVE, love is the source of Joy, Ease, Happiness, Manifestation and all other positive or balanced emotions. So I chose Love and happiness. I made myself a list of 10 things that make me happy so that when my mind starts to wander back to fear I can think of something on my list and bring myself back to happiness.

10 Things that make me HAPPY

  1. Love - the love of my Family, Friends and Fiance make me happy. I am blessed to have a wonderful family, a beautiful and supportive, awesome fiance and the best friends anyone could have. Spending time with my friends family and fiance make me truly happy.
  2. Gratitude - I am grateful for many things. My health, my wonderful home, and I am grateful for being able to find joy in the simplicity of life.  I am grateful for my wonderful relationship with nature and the beautiful earth we live on. I am grateful.
  3. Music - I love, love, love music. Music can transport me to another place and time; when I listen to music it totally shifts my mood. I love to listen to inspiring music while I read or write. When I'm cooking I like something that makes me smile, and when I clean I love music that makes me move.  Some of my favorites are Radiohead, anything from radiohead, they rock. I love Bob Marley - "Three Little Birds" always makes me happy, and Classical music is nice to read and write to. It takes me out of my head and helps me to concentrate.
  4. Beauty - beauty is everywhere, in the food we eat, the flowers we see, in the colors that surround us. I love to create a space for beauty with candles, a nice colorful wrap and a cup of tea. I can walk outside my door and see beauty in everyone and everything. I love beauty and when I look at the beauty in everything it makes me happy.
  5. Great Food - Anyone who knows me  knows that I love food. Not the junky kind of food but beautiful healthy wonderful food "sometimes with a little junk." I love salad - it is my favorite food My fiance calls me rabbit because I eat so much salad. I love to prepare beautiful healthy salads with every meal, even breakfast. Eating a salad makes me feel good, strong and healthy which makes me happy. I also love to go out to eat; its not a regular event for me so I like to go places that make beautiful food and I love to enjoy the food with the people I love. Some of my favorite places to eat are Kiku in Brooklyn, (718) 499-2288. It's a yummy sushi place where the food is fresh, beautifully prepared and quite affordable. Also I love La Sirene on Broome Street, (212) 925-3061. It's super tiny - the food is amazing and the chef is super cool! I love the mussels in white wine, it's my favorite.
  6. Great books - a great book always makes me happy. Lately I have been reading a ton of alternative healing books. Stuff on acupuncture, plant therapy and many, many more. I feel sorry for my fiance who lives with me - the bedroom, living room, kitchen and dining room table are covered in stacks of books. I also love magazines. It's a nice treat to curl up in front of the fire and read a good book or magazine, it makes me really happy.
  7. Funny movies and TV shows - Who doesn't love to laugh? I know I do. It's always nice to put yourself in a good mood with a funny TV show or movie. I love watching funny shows with my fiance. He has the best laugh and when he laughs really hard at something it makes me so happy and usually I end up laughing with him. We love to watch Flight of the Conchords together - it's so, so, so funny - if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. I also love to watch the TV show Dharma and Greg. It's a silly show and it always makes me laugh which makes me happy.
  8. Nature - I spent a ton of time in 2008 in nature, I traveled back and forth between Utah and New York all spring summer and fall. I spent time learning about the plants and flowers of the desert, and I spent time on my family ranch in the mountains of Utah. It was so wonderful to spend time with my family and be surrounded by the amazing, beautiful landscapes and plants that grow there. It's been challenging this winter for me to be sort of separated from nature, so I bring nature inside. I planted some beautiful paperwhites and they are blooming now. It makes me so happy to spend time with plants, flowers and trees.
  9. Great Smells - OK, I am kind of obsessed with scent, I must have a huge olfactory nerve. I love to surround myself with great scents, smells can transport me back in time or to another place entirely. Lately, I've been sort of obsessed with citrus. The crisp, fresh scent totally makes me happy. Just peel an orange and tell me you don't smile a little, or zest a lemon and try to be unhappy, I dare you.  Some of my favorite places to get great treats for the nose are E-Harcourts. The founder Eileen Harcourt is a friend and a fantastic lady who makes the best best smelling products around hands down. Go to www.eharcourts.com and check out her candles - they are amazing. Also, I am totally into Origins "gloom away grapefruit body souffle." It's like sunshine in a jar. Love it. Totally makes me happy.
  10. Giving - There is no difference between giving and receiving. Well, for me in the past there was totally a difference between giving and receiving. I was a rock star at giving but sucked big time at receiving. It's a new year and I am totally open to receiving; that said, I love giving. Giving is something that makes me happy, but not giving from an unbalanced place but from my overflow. I love to give the gift of a positive attitude - most of the time, hey, I am not nuts. I love giving the gift of a smile, giving the gift of my time, knowledge and friendship. Giving is so awesome and need not cost you a cent. We don't need to spend a ton of money to give a great gift. Chances are that the person you are giving something to will love the gift that costs less and means more. So, 2009 I am giving the gifts I have to give and that makes  me super happy.
